The Best Yves Saint Laurent Perfumes for Women
The Story of Yves Saint Laurent
Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent. This is the man who started one of the greatest fashion labels of the twentieth century. His start began in France, where as a child he designed dresses for his mother and sisters. At the age of 17, he moved to France to go to fashion school and begin his journey.
While in Paris he was introduced to Christian Dior, where he spent a few years by his side. He learned what it took to make it in the fashion industry by Christian. Christian had him do many mundane tasks such as decorating the office and dressing mannequins before he promoted him to a designer.
By 1961, he had founded the Yves Saint Laurent brand and put out luxury ready-to-wear clothing for women. He popularized many fashion trends of the decades such as tuxedo suits for women and tighter pants for women. He also was the first designer to use non-white models in his runway show, when the norm at the time was to use strictly white models.
In 1964, Yves Saint Laurent released their first fragrance for women titled “Y”. It was a green and herbal perfume that was the start of a line of over 200 fragrances that are pure class.

The Top 7 Best Yves Saint Laurent Perfumes
This is for the women who love gourmand/sweet perfumes. It is a rich vanilla scent with notes of coffee and pear that give it that added complexity that make this one of Yves Saint Laurent’s best sellers. You will be able to distinguish the vanilla and coffee notes easily with patchouli following as it dries down.
This perfume is for night life only, its notes are perfect for getting complements while you are out with your friends. It smells dark and seductive while having a cozy coffee shop type feel. You do get a hint of floral notes, but they are far from the star of the show in this perfume. This perfume has been known to have different notes shine on different people. Some people might have the creamy coffee notes shine and someone might have the more masculine-type notes shine more.
This is a perfume that you don’t want to blind buy, its notes aren’t a safe bet for some people. It can come off as very sweet and nauseating to some, while others it smells incredible to them.
The performance is average for a gourmand type perfume. It will project to get attention while you are out at your favorite nightlife spot or while you are hanging out with your friends in the winter. The longevity will last you around 6 to 8 hours when sprayed on the skin. This is around the average for most perfumes. Not too good and not too bad.
A luxurious vanilla scent that is perfect for the woman who is 30 years or older and knows herself. It has lost some of its initial hype since being released in 2004. Fragrance brands have been replicating the sweet gourmand fragrances with vanilla and almond blossom. This is one of the originals and still is an incredible smelling perfume.
The reformulation has actually benefited the smell, which is not very common. It is not as syrupy sweet smelling and more of a citrus presence than before. This makes it more wearable, it has made it into a fragrance you can wear at any time of the day, during any season of the year. Sweet clementine aroma is an incredible note that doesn’t get used enough.
The performance is what makes it versatile as well. It has moderate projection that will blend in with the office environment or at your favorite bar with your best friends. The longevity is very good and you will be able to get a solid 9 to 12 hours out of this perfume with no problems.
Check out this perfume that is a reminder of the old romantic Hollywood movies that we all love.
A fruit dominant perfume that places nectarine as the star of the show. The top notes smell like a very luxurious champagne when you first spray this perfume. Once that dies down you get the beautiful rose and violet floral notes that make this perfume very feminine.
This is an updated version from the original Yvresse that has been discontinued and selling at astronomical prices. The original version was more subtle and delicate than this version. This version puts itself out there more for the world. It will gain more compliments and gain more attention than the original.
The performance of this perfume is better than the original. Its longevity is something that you will never have to worry about. Lasting anywhere from 14 to 16 hours with a few sprays. The projection is heavy hitting as well. You will not have a problem with someone smelling this perfume when you are near.
In Love Again
A feel-good perfume that will bring you back to that feeling of falling in love again. It opens up with an intense note of sweet grapefruit, then followed by a medley of berries. It is a wonderful fragrance to wear during the summer time. A light, refreshing, fragrance that will never get old. It settles down with a sandalwood note that gives it a little more depth than just a fruit perfume.
The best formula of this perfume is the original from 1998, the current formula is a little watered down. It is still an amazing fragrance that just makes you feel happy, each time you smell it. I know people who have been wearing this perfume since it first came out in 1998. 20+ years of wearing a fragrance must mean they did something right.
The performance is typical for what you get in a light summer time perfume. It will never blow people away with the projection making it nauseating and irritating to be around. The longevity will average anywhere between 6 to 8 hours. It will be less if you are going to be outside for most of the day.
A nostalgic perfume that will bring you back to good times. It is a simple rose perfume that will never go out of style. Just like the bottle, it is a bright and fruity perfume that can be a little much to some. The mixture of rose and pineapple is very nice, with a underlying note of black currant that gives it a tangy side to it.
This perfume has been around for a while now, it came out in 2000. This means the notes are not very current with the what perfumes smell like now. This was back when boot-cut jeans and pink jumpsuits were in style. You should smell this one in the store before you purchase it. It fits well with the woman with a bubbly personality.
The performance is not the best Yves Saint Laurent has put out. It will last you around 4 to 6 hours of longevity when you spray yourself a few times. The projection makes this perfume perfect for the summer/spring time. It will not hold up in the winter months unfortunately.
Give this throwback perfume a try if you are feeling bubbly and nostalgic that day.
A lighter version of the original Manifesto by Yves Saint Laurent. This is a vanilla dominant perfume with green notes to balance out the sweetness of it. The creators of this perfume wanted to emphasize the strength, femininity, and style more with this perfume than the original. They did a great job with the blending of the note on this one.
I would wear this perfume during the spring time mostly, but you can wear it at any time of the year if you wanted to. It is a day and night fragrance, from work to dating it is perfect. The cashmere and sandalwood notes of this perfume are great additions from the original and it gives it the perfect springtime vibe.
The performance is everything you would want in a springtime fragrance. It is just enough to get noticed while you are out enjoying the sun and beautiful weather at your favorite park. The longevity will last you around 6 hours on average. This perfume I would keep in your car to just freshen up whenever you need.
Want a springtime Yves Saint Laurent perfume? This is for you.
The most affordable perfume on this list, as well as one of my favorites. A fruit perfume with dark undertones like oak moss and musk to balance it out. I gave this one a smell and I couldn’t figure out what a particular note was. Turns out the note was vinyl… as in the type of smell from a vinyl record. This gives it a uniqueness and works surprisingly well with the rose note.
The vinyl and violet notes give this perfume a modern vibe that most rose perfumes don’t have.
It is a versatile perfume for everyday use. From the office to going out to your favorite bar, this perfume fits right in. During the day or wearing it at night. You need a perfume this versatile in your collection. When you can’t think of what to wear, this perfume will always be there to help you out.
You won’t find many people wearing this perfume, which is a shame. Be the one to make this perfume popular, like it deserves.
The performance is slightly above average for your jack-of-all-trades type perfume. It will last you around 6 to 8 hours on average no matter the time of day. The projection is average as well and it’s just enough for whatever occasion you are in.
