Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme Review
The Dolce & Gabbana Brand
Dolce & Gabbana is a luxury fashion brand that creates everything from clothing to watches. They founded the brand in 1985 where they released their very first women’s clothing line. In 1992 they released their men’s clothing line, which included bright and visual shirts and pants. These pieces of clothing aren’t your typical designs, they have royal-type themes that look like something royalty would wear.
1992 is the year that started their line of fragrances. They started out with women’s perfumes but in 1994 they released the original Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme cologne that is the original of the fragrance I am reviewing. You can no longer buy the original, unless you get lucky and find someone who still has a bottle for sale. It was a mature and sophisticated cologne that just oozed an aroma of what Italy smells like.
Since then, Dolce & Gabbana have put out countless popular fragrances that have hit best seller status. Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue is a fragrance that you will smell in public often. It is the perfect hot weather fragrance for both men and women. Dolce & Gabbana The One is a spicy tobacco based cologne that smells very masculine and unique for a men’s cologne.
Enough about the brand. Let’s talk about this amazing cologne that is my personal favorite from Dolce & Gabbana.
Pour Homme by Dolce & Gabbana
This is the review for the 2012 version of Pour Homme. It had some minor tweaks from the original that was first released in 1994 as the first Dolce & Gabbana men’s fragrance. The notes of lavender and tobacco are one of the best combinations you can find in perfumery. The lavender has the freshness and the tobacco has the dark musky notes that are the perfect counter to each other.
Pour Homme is a fragrance you can wear at any time of the day and at any time of the year. I’ve worn it during the summer time on the beach and in the cold of winter, with no problems. It can also be worn at any age, from a teenager to your mature years, this fragrance fits right in.
The changes from the original make it better in my opinion. The tobacco note isn’t too cloying and overpowering. The zesty opening of the citrus has been taken down a notch, to let the other notes shine as well.
I’ll be honest, the performance of this cologne took a downturn compared to the 1994 version. It’s longevity doesn’t have the same capacity it once did, you will get around 8 to 11 hours. In relation to other colognes… that is an amazing amount, it just doesn’t have the what the 1994 version had.
The projection of this cologne has also taken a slight downturn compared to the original. It’s moderate and in my opinion, the perfect amount for a versatile cologne. It won’t be blowing anybody away around you. It will sit close to the skin and only people who are close to you will get to smell it.
In conclusion, the 2012 version of Pour Homme had some good changes and some bad changes. It’s scent is 10/10 with a performance that is a 7/10 on a good day.
