Hidden Gem Spotlight: Scandal by Jean Paul Gaultier
Jean Paul Gaultier Fragrances
“People are fed up with something when it becomes more and more popular.” – Jean Paul Gaultier
Jean-Paul Gaultier is a fashion designer who is most notably known for his fragrances and over-the-top designs in fashion shows. He is also known for his use of unconventional models who normally wouldn’t be in shows such as older men and heavily tattooed models. In this article we will be talking strictly about a perfume that isn’t talked about a lot.
Jean Paul Gaultier isn’t a brand that you hear often for doing women’s perfumes in the fragrance community. I’ve mostly heard “Le Male” or “Ultra Male” being spoken about, with the interesting bottle design that looks like a man’s torso. But…believe it or not, the first fragrance to come from Jean Paul Gaultier was a perfume for women.
The name of it was Classique Eau de Parfum, with the signature torso-shaped bottle with a beautiful design. This perfume was a seductive scent that had main notes of vanilla, rum, and rose. It was a good start to a collection of currently 115 fragrances that span from the powerful men’s club fragrances like Ultra Male or the delicate feminine perfumes like Fragile.
Scandal by Jean Paul Gaultier
A newer perfume to come out from Jean Paul Gaultier, released in 2017. Scandal is a perfume with a unique sweetness you don’t smell very often. A note of honey is the base of this whole fragrance. Patchuoli is the balancing note of this perfume that keeps the sweetness of the honey in check. Without this patchouli note, this perfume would smell way too sweet and off-putting people.
This perfume was designed to break all cliches, offering something new and modern from the Jean Paul Gaultier brand. The goal of Jean-Paul Gaultier with this fragrance was to create something spicy, festive, sexy, and fun. He wanted to branch out from his usual fragrances and go outside of the box with this one.
This is for the woman who wants to step outside of her comfort zone and try something new.

The performance of this fragrance is a component that makes it so great. Perfumes that are released by Jean Paul Gaultier always have amazing longevity in each formula. Scandal is not an exception to this rule, it won’t last less than 12 hours. Its projection is nothing that is forceful and cloying, but it will make its presence known in a crowded room. Its scent is what really draws attention, not how powerful they can make it.
It’s out of the box but also very crowd pleasing and nice to be around. This perfume is what the Jean-Paul envisioned when he was first creating the brand.
